Harriett Mandelay Luger Obituary
Harriett Mandelay Luger

Harriett Mandelay Luger died at home in her sleep on February 3, 2012. She was 97 years of age and a 59-year resident of Torrance. She was born in Vancouver, British Columbia and spent her childhood in El Paso, TX and Hollywood, CA. Harriett loved to read and aspired to be a writer, a profession that she pursued successfully later in life. She penned seven books for young adults, which came out between 1972 and 1996. Her last book, Bye-Bye Bali Kai, was published in hard and soft cover and in a French language edition in 2000. Her titles include: The Bird of the Farallons, The Last Stronghold, Chasing Trouble, The Elephant Tree, Lauren and the Unduding of Roger Judd. Harriett's books were often about the natural world and young people dealing with growing up. She attended UCLA, and there she met Lieutenant Charles Luger. They married in 1942 and had three children: Carolyn, Allen and Eleanor. The family settled in Torrance, and Charles taught Botany and Horticulture at El Camino College. Harriett is survived by three children and their spouses, and four grandchildren. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
