Haydee Tyrrell Reigadas Obituary
Haydee
Tyrrell Reigadas, Ph.D.

May 25, 1918 – September 21, 2016

Haydee T. Reigadas, beloved mother, loyal friend, respected teacher and mentor passed away peacefully on September 21st 2016 after a brief illness. She was 98 years old. Haydee was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her family moved to Rio Cuarto, Cordoba, where she met her husband Guillermo Reigadas who preceded her in death. They were married for 60 years and together they raised their only son, Will.
Haydee was a very accomplished woman with an impressive teaching career. She came to the United States in 1958 to teach Spanish at Mary Manse College in Toledo, Ohio. The guest-teaching position turned into full-time employment and eventually a reunion with her beloved husband and son in the United States. While in Ohio, she earned a Master's Degree in English at the University of Toledo, in 1965. The same year, she and her family moved to Redondo Beach where she taught at Chadwick and Marymount College. One of Haydee's proudest moments was attaining a Ph.D. in Hispanic Language and Literature on March 26th, 1982 from UCLA. Haydee taught Spanish and Latin American literature at Loyola Marymount University for twenty years. After her retirement in 1988 she and her husband moved to Apple Valley but her retirement did not last long; she became a faculty member at Victor Valley College where she taught for 10 years. After her husband's passing, she moved to Torrance to be close to her son and daughter-in-law. Her affable personality, optimism, sweet disposition, and genuine interest in others gained her many friends who kept in touch until her passing. She leaves behind her son and daughter –in-law, countless friends in the United States and Argentina, and several relatives in Argentina. Although Haydee is no longer with us her spirit lives on in the many lives she so profoundly touched.
A celebration of her life will take place at a later time. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
