Ida Prosser "Pat" Rippe Obituary
Ida "Pat" Prosser Rippe

Pat passed away with her family at her side on January 17, 2014 at the age of 92. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on February 7, 1921, she was the last survivor of two sisters and one brother. Careers in the military, the private sector, and as a volunteer earned Pat the great respect of all who knew and worked with her. During World War II, she joined the US Navy and served as a Ensign stationed in Hawaii. Moving to California after the war, Pat began a secretarial career and eventually enjoyed 25 years with Garrett Air Research Corporation as an executive secretary. Retirement from the aerospace industry made travel possible, which Pat dove into enthusiastically, as she did with all her pursuits. During those years, her extensive journeys included visiting 6 continents. Her ancestral background guided Pat to Israel where, over 3 separate tours, she lived on a kibbutz and volunteered for the Israeli army. Pat's strong work ethic led her to donate her time; volunteering became her lifeline. Over the subsequent decades she made significant contributions to the community and the causes she believed in. For over 30 years, Pat volunteered at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center in Torrance. She volunteered at the 1984 Olympics and for the American Cancer Society. A lover of the arts, Pat ushered for the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center, the Hermosa Beach Playhouse, and El Camino College Center for the Arts Speaker's Series. It was during this "retirement" that Pat also spent 7 years working for actor Jack Lemmon as a private secretary. Pat is survived by her 3 children, 6 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandson. She will be greatly missed by many who honor her remarkable life. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
