Irene was born in Pixley California in August of 1926. Her family moved to southern California at a young age and she spent the greatest part of her life in Harbor Pines in Harbor City. She graduated from Narbonne High School as WWII raged. She attended design school and spent countless hours on her hobbies, sewing, knitting and needlepointing exquisite pieces. She was married over 60 years to Joe Cobo who adored her and proceeded her in death nearly 5 years ago. Joe and Irene were both active members of Saint Margaret Mary Catholic Church, in Lomita. She worked for Kaiser Permanente for over 25 years and retired to enjoy life and travel with Joe. They had 2 sons, Rick and Mike. Rick lost his life in an automobile accident after graduating from Bishop Montgomery High School in 1969. She is survived by her son, Mike and his wife Karen of Redondo Beach. Irene was an incredible grandmother to Matthew and Kimberly and their spouses Nicole and Brian. Irene loved babies, which made her a wonderful and loving great-grandmother to Lena, Kara, Mackenna and Grayson.

Irene was a graceful and fashionable woman who devoted her time to her family. She was formerly an active participant in the USC Mother's Clubs, Sigma Chi Mother's Clubs and Las Vecinas. She was a supporter of St. Jude's Hospital, Inner City Law Center and Uncommon Good. She loved the San Pedro Elks Club and traveling with her friends. She adored her nieces and nephews and their families.

Irene passed away on Tuesday, January 30th at Kaiser Hospital. Services will be conducted at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City; a rosary will be said on Wednesday evening, February 7 at 6pm and Memorial Services at 9am on Thursday, February 8, 2018.
