I.W. (Al) Alcantara

I.W. (Al) Alcantara, 83, passed away January 18, 2012, at 1:15 a.m., his family by his side. Loving husband of Beatrice, much loved father of Gloria, Judy, Blandina, Carl, Jim, Dolores, Eddie, Teresa and Arthur and also 20 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren and loving brother of Claire. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary and his brother, Eddie. Al served in the Marines and graduated from UCLA, Class of '53 with a BS in engineering. He had a successful career of over 40 years as an electrical engineer with U.S. Gypsum, Hughes, Magnavox, FMA and TRW, where he was given the honor of watching the Viking satellite launch at Cape Canaveral. Al was an avid and passionate UCLA football and basketball fan, and a loyal, dedicated brother of Sigma Phi Delta fraternity. He loved camping and he and Bea traveled extensively in the USA and abroad. Al enjoyed family gatherings; especially the family BBQs. Al had a quick wit, a kind and thoughtful heart, strong family values and a deep faith. He will be dearly missed by all his family and friends. A service to honor and celebrate Al's life will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, Friday, January 27, at 11.30 a.m., in the Risen Christ Chapel. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
