Obituary Condolences

Age 78, passed away peacefully at home in Torrance, California, on November 25th, 2010, after sustaining a brain hemorrhage. Born in Highland Park, New Jersey, Jack graduated from Rutgers University with a BS in Chemistry. He later attended MIT, received an MBA in Statistics and Operations Research from Northwestern University and entered the Business Ph.D. Program at the University of Southern California. Jack subsequently enjoyed a long career at Hughes Aircraft, where he became Chief Scientist and Logistics Manager working on advanced program development for the Electro-Optical and Data Systems Group and the Space and Communications Group. With many and varied interests, Jack enthusiastically took classes in painting, bonsai, voice and music, acupressure, hypnotherapy, metal-smithing, interior decorating, landscape design and wood carving. Following retirement in 1993, he became a docent for the Frank Lloyd Wright and RM Schindler houses in Los Angeles, volunteered at the South Coast Botanic Garden and worked as a senior tutor for El Camino College and South Bay Literacy Council, all the while tutoring private students. He also loved to travel for music and art, venturing abroad several times each year with June, his wife of 46 years; his daughter, Monica (Drew Lehman); and son, Alex (Kim Landrum) also survive him. A Celebration of his Life will be held at the South Coast Botanic Garden on Sunday, January 30, 2011 at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting support for the John Kagdis Memorial Scholarship Fund.
