Jack Marler

Jack Marler (92) passed away March 4, 2012 at his residence in Rancho Palos Verdes. Jack was born May 7, 1919 in Comanche, Oklahoma. He grew up in Wichita, Kansas and attended Santa Monica Junior College and Wichita State University. As a teenager, he met the love of his life, Betty Bassett, on the tennis courts and they married July 5, 1941. An avid aviator, Jack was associated with Beech Aircraft Corporation and retired from Hughes Aircraft Corporation. Jack's interests included aviation, tennis, golfing, singing, woodworking, and backyard grilling. He was active in the Norris Theater's Bravo and Prime Time Players, Palos Verdes Art Center, Torrance Memorial Hospital Miracle of Living Series, and Los Cancioneros. He was preceded in death by his mother, Zora Hamel and his son, Gary Marler. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty; son, Mike Marler of Palos Verdes Estates; daughters, Tisha Shaski of Palm Desert and Melinda Connell and husband Paul of Houston; Gary's wife, Cindy Marler of Cambria; six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. A reception celebrating Jack's life will be held in The Canterbury Living Room, 5801 Crestridge Road, Rancho Palos Verdes on Sunday, March 18 from 2-5pm.
