Jean Nichols was born in Illinois, grew up in Highwood, outside of Chicago, and earned both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in vocal performance at Chicago's Cosmopolitan School of Music. While a graduate student there, she won the Society of American Musicians Competition. She moved in 1955 to Hawthorne, California with her husband, Michael Galanos, and son, John, both of whom predeceased her. Jean's career in concert performance and teaching of voice privately and at California State University, Fullerton, profoundly enriched students and colleagues. In addition to solo recitals, she was a professional soloist at Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago and she sang with the Roger Wagner Chorale, Lutheran Chorale of Los Angeles and Baroque Music Festival, Corona del Mar. A woman of deep faith, Jean was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Manhattan Beach, where a memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 25 at 11:00 a.m. Contributions in her memory may be sent to: Trinity Lutheran Church (designate "Concert Series"), 1340 Eleventh St., Manhattan Beach, CA 90266.
