Jemima McManus Carter

Jemima "Mima" McManus-Carter, recently passed away peacefully at her home in El Segundo, CA surrounded by her loving friends on April 10, 2017 at the age of 91.
Mima was born in Glasgow, Scotland, the beloved daughter of James and Mabel (McPhee) McManus on June 9, 1925 and the oldest of 9 children. Predeceased family include her parents; brothers, Charles, James, Alexander and Robert McManus as well as sister, Mabel McManus. She leaves her siblings, Iza (McManus) Taylor, Francis (McManus) Simpkins, and Margaret (McManus) Watson, ex-husband William Carter, many other in-law siblings, nieces, nephews, great nieces/nephews and close friends in her community.
In her early years, Jemima helped her father in his fire merchant business as well as helped raise her brothers and sisters. Her early career in Scotland included being a top specialty shoes salesperson. Mima moved to the US in 1963 where she met and married William Carter, a fellow Glasgow immigrant in El Segundo, CA. She worked many years at the local El Segundo bakery. Her ex-husband William Carter remained by her side, as well as her close friends in the community.
Jemima loved life, her family, her friends, and especially enjoyed tending her garden, "dog sitting" her many furry friends, being a member of the Britannia club, and a being a devout Catholic. A memorial mass will be held at Saint Anthony's Catholic Church in El Segundo at 10:30 am on April 20, 2017.
