Jerry Webster Smith Obituary
Jerry Webster Smith (79) of Bozeman, MT, began his journey beyond this life on March 9, 2015.
Jerry's legacy will live on through his loving children, Jeryl, Jeff, Jason and daughter-in-law Karen Smith; grandchildren, Emerson and Allegra Smith; sister, Susan Morgan and brother-in-law Robert Morgan; nieces, Jennifer Morgan, and Lisa and Rachael Roper; grandnephews, Kirk and Cory Roper, and Spenser Peterson; grandnieces, Taylor and Brooke Peterson; and many other loving family and friends.
Jerry's life began on May 29, 1935 in the loving arms of parents Alden and Nyle Smith in Cambridge, MA. He grew up in the NW suburbs of Detroit, MI and attended Albion College before graduating from Wayne State University in 1961 with a degree in accounting, where he also pursued a master's in computer science. For many years, Jerry managed his family's Oak Drive-In Theatre and worked with his father buying and booking films for movie theatres throughout the Midwest. Most of his career was spent in information technology.
Jerry married Luanne Kopesky in 1957 and together they had their first child, Jeryl Anne. In 1963, Jerry married Nancy Cornell and moved to California in 1964 to work for Xerox. Together they had two children, Jason and Jeff. His professional love was of computers and, later in life, he enjoyed teaching computer science classes at DeVry University. Jerry loved Southern California where they raised their children. Nancy passed away in 1997.
In 2013, Jerry moved to Bozeman, MT to be close to Emerson, Allegra, Jason and Karen. Jerry enjoyed sailing, cinema, reading, his cat Keaton and the finer things in life. He will be remembered for his keen intellect, good humor, passion for debate and generosity. A celebration of his life will be held on May 30, 2015 in Bozeman, MT, at a time when many were planning to gather for his 80th birthday.
