Jo Ann Jennings Obituary
Jo Ann Jennings

January 4, 1931 – September 2, 2016

Jo Ann Jennings passed away peacefully at her home on September 2, 2016 at the age of 85. A memorial service will be held at 1pm on October 1st at St. Cross Episcopal Church in Hermosa Beach. A celebration of life follows.

Jo Ann was born in Farwell, Texas. She was the second youngest of seven children and was the final survivor of the clan. Jo Ann and her family moved to California when she was 13 and settled into the Bakersfield area. There she attended school and worked in the fields. She was very proud of the fact that she was the first in her family to finish high school, earning her diploma from Clovis Union High School in June 1948.

Jo Ann was always an independent spirit. After graduation she left the fields behind and moved south to start her career in the LA area restaurant business. She spent the next 44 years working in and managing some of the Beach Cities most popular restaurants. She met many interesting people and made life long friends.

Jo Ann married her late husband Dale O. Jennings in 1957. Early on they managed to purchase a cute cottage in Hermosa Beach blocks from the sand. Jo Ann was in her element, loving her life with her husband in Hermosa Beach. She treasured simple pleasures like walking on the beach, cooking, gardening, and time with her many friends and relatives.

In retirement, Jo Ann remained active traveling extensively. She spent many hours tending her amazing vegetable and flower gardens in her yard. She was an active member of the Hermosa Beach Garden Club for over 20 years, serving in various positions that included Vice President of the Board.

Jo Ann was loved by many and graced the lives of all who knew her. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, their children and grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly and kept in close contact.
