John G. Fleitz Obituary
John G. Fleitz

John G. Fleitz, the son of Joseph and Irene Fleitz, passed away peacefully at his home in Long Beach, California on November 14, 2011 at the age of 82. He was born April 20, 1929 in San Pedro, California and had been a longtime resident of Long Beach. Self-described as a "good" tennis player, he was the 1948 National Junior College Champion, earned a scholarship to USC, played the Pacific Northwest and Eastern circuits in 1950 and became the 45 Indoor Doubles Champion in 1974. Beginning in 1954 John began developing and operating marinas in the Los Angeles harbor area. Over the years he expanded the marina business into San Pedro and Marina Del Rey. Additionally, he was a successful developer of tennis recreation facilities including Palm Desert Tennis Club in Palm Desert, California and Los Caballeros Sports Village in Fountain Valley, California. He was an employer, mentor, marina innovator, land developer, astute business man and so much more….but most importantly he was a cherished husband, father, grandpa, and friend whose presence will be missed each and every day. For those of us lucky enough to have known John personally, his passing has created a void that can never be filled. First and foremost, he was a family man who cherished his family above all else, including his Holiday Harbor family. He was truly a man of integrity whose actions personified his values. His dry sense of humor was legendary, as was he, especially in the fields of marina recreation and fitness center development. John was a very spiritual man who lived as God's faithful servant. May he now rest in the arms of His Loving Father, in peace at last. John is survived by his beloved family, wife of 60 years, Beverly Fleitz; children, Kimberly Duarte-Fleitz, Julie (Kris) Kazarian, Lisa Wetherell, Jamie Phillips; and grandchildren, Kristen (Leith), Jeff (Anastassia), Brittany, Jon, Katie, Jackson, Daniel, Courtney, Irene and Mitchell. A celebration of his life will be held at Holiday Harbor, 241 Watchorn Walk, Berth 34, San Pedro, California 90731 at 1:00pm on Monday, November 21, 2011. A memorial fund in John's name benefiting the has been setup at http://act.alz.org/goto/Johnfleitz.
