John James Granater (91)

Born in Mingo Junction, Ohio on July 5, 1918 to the late Paul and Mary Granater. He passed away in the care of his son, Robert at a nursing care facility in Torrance, CA on March 14, 2010. He graduated from High School in 1936 and worked in the steel mills until moving to Los Angeles in 1939 and later married Myrtle Christensen while working in manufacturing for North American Aviation. His son, Robert was born in 1941. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry in Europe, during the last 16 months of World War II and was promoted to Sergeant. After the war, he returned to aircraft manufacturing for Douglas Aircraft Company. He attended a technical school in 1949 and 1950 where he studied electronic engineering. He was hired by Hughes Aircraft Company, Culver City, CA in 1951, where he worked for 33 years and retired in 1984 as a Senior Development Engineer. He was successful in his career and successful as a loving husband and father. He was well liked by his relatives and everyone who knew him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle in 2006; his brother, Paul in 2007; and brother, George in 2008. His brother, Eddy passed away in October 2011. John leaves behind his brothers, Daniel of Bloomingdale, Ohio, and Andrew of Wintersville, Ohio; his sister, Mary Donahue of Richmond, Ohio; and his son, Robert of Manhattan Beach, CA. A graveside service with Honor Guard was held on March 24, 2010 and conducted by Forest Lawn Mortuary in Glendale. Please share memories at [email protected]
