John Peter Warhol Obituary
John Peter Warhol peacefully passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2010 in Gardena, CA. Born in New York, NY, John was 90 when he died. He was a 60-year resident of Gardena, CA. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1943 with 4 ribbons and remained active with his friends in the Seabees. John and wife, Ceil, who passed away 8 months ago, were active parishioners of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Gardena. John was an enthusiastic member of the Moose Lodge, Rotary Club, Amvets, VFW and YMI. He created the Gardena Reading Skills Program which encourages and rewards young readers in the Gardena area, even today. Through the years he held various jobs to support his family, but he found his niche later in life as an advertising salesman and worked in this field way past the age of 70. He always said, "If you like what you do, you'll never work a day in your life." John and his wife loved traveling and have visited many countries over the years, but his pride and joy were his family and circle of friends. Those were his riches in life, he said. John is survived by his son, Jeffery Warhol (wife, Judy) of Upland, CA; and his daughter, Jill Stoten (husband, Chris) of Hermosa Beach, CA. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Cecilia; and son, Stephen. He also leaves his grandchildren, Lisa Ertter, Mark Warhol, Jill Warhol, Stephanie Driscoll, Jennifer Gallagher; and great grandchildren, Samantha, Kyle, McKinley, Kiana and Everett. The memorial service will be held at McMillan & McCormick, 1016 W. 164th St., in Gardena on Saturday, August 28, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. A reception will follow from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the mortuary's lighthouse reception room.
