John Spreitzer

John Spreitzer was born in Csonoplja, Yugoslavia on October 2, 1921 to Nikolaus and Katarina Kemmer Spreitzer. John's life was changed forever by World War II when he was drafted into the Hungarian army and subsequently captured and held in a Russian work camp for three years. He escaped and found his way home to his wife Theresia and young son, John. After living four more years in a refugee camp in Austria, John and his family were sponsored by St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Los Angeles to come to America. They arrived here November 11, 1951. John worked most of his life as a bricklayer, and succeeded at achieving the American dream. He passed away in Torrance, California on January 13, 2013. Preceding him in death were his two sisters, Katharina Bohnert and Magdalena Djorjevich, and his beloved wife Theresia Schmich who died in 2001. John leaves his son John (Donna), four grandchildren, Christian (Hung Nguyen), Julia (Christopher Matthews), Nicholas and Michael and three great-grandchildren, Jacob, Lucas and Kaitlyn Matthews.
