Johnny G. Caldera

Johnny G. Caldera, Jr., passed away on June 25th in Wilmington. He was predeceased by his wife, Florence, and his son, Jonathan. He is survived by his son, William David, granddaughter Aprill (Dwayne) Lavinder, great-grandson, Joshua Ramsey, and great-granddaughter, Marlene Lavinder. He is also survived by his wife, Mary K., stepdaughter Emily (Dexx) Oandasan, step granddaughter Delanee Angelina Oandasan, a brother, sisters, numerous nieces and nephews, and cousins. He was in the Merchant Marine beginning in World War II and also had other occupations including working aboard the S.S. Catalina and being a longshore worker with ILWU Local 13 for 41 years. A member of Sts. Peter and Paul Parish, he was also a Knight of Columbus, and held memberships in the Friends of the Wilmington Branch Library, the Blustering Gales (Sherlock Holmes fans) and Envoy Member of Beta Sigma Phi. Favorite charities include Stanford Kidney Research, Lupus, Scleroderma, Cystic Fibrosis, Operation Mend, and L.A. Archdiocese's Together In Mission. A Vigil Service will be held on Wednesday, July 2nd 2014 at 7PM at McNerney's Mortuary on 1640 North Avalon Blvd. Wilmington, CA. Visitation will begin at 5PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 3rd 2014 at 10AM at the Church of S.S. Peter and Paul, 515 Opp Street (Corner of Opp and Lagoon) in Wilmington, CA. Burial will be at Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 South Western Avenue in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. Many thanks to the wonderful caregivers of Haven Hospice for their help and concern.
