Jose passed away on March 31, 2011. He is survived by his wife, Vivencia "Bing" C. Smith; daughter, Pauline (Agalelei "Sam") Moega; sons, Michael Smith, Sr., and Chesley Smith; grandchildren, Tricia (Edgar) Mendez, Michael (Angelique) Smith, Jr., Theresa (Richard) Rico, Angela Espinoza (Daniel Garcia), Efren (Kathy) Villa, Trinidad Smith, Bryan Smith, Andrea Smith and Agalelei Moega, Jr.; 22 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and relatives; brother-in-law, Roy Brown; sister-in-law, Frances Gaboya; stepchildren, Daniel Casillan, Raymon Casillan, Iris C. Cross, Niceas Casillan, Vincent Casillan, and Marie C. Pasik; and many friends. Jose was born on September 4, 1926 in the city of Cavite, the Philippine Islands, and was a longtime resident of Wilmington and later of Torrance. He enlisted in the United States Navy in his late teens where he proudly retired as a Chief Petty Officer after 30 years of service. Jose was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Agnes Trinidad Smith; and sister, Helen Brown. Jose loved family gatherings and was known for cooking his delicious, tasty Chicken Adobo and also for his uniquely marinated meats at summertime barbeques. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Bing, going on sea cruises, flying to far away places such as Hawaii and China, as well as frequenting the gambling casinos where his luck was at the Craps table. We will miss you Dad, and we are thankful for having had you in our lives. Private viewing to be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 from 3pm-4pm; public viewing from 4pm-8pm; and Rosary service to be held at 6:30pm. Funeral Mass to be held on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at 9am with Interment to follow. All services to be held at All Souls Mortuary/Cemetery, 4400 Cherry Ave., Long Beach.
