Joseph A. Martinez passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at Long Beach Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family. He loved his family and left behind, four children; Joseph Martinez Jr., Kathy Martinez-Day (Sheldon), Bernadette Smith (Doug), Lisa Martinez Bakhtari (Arash) and six grandchildren; Jason Smith (Becky), Jeanette Smith, Eva Martinez (Tyler), Jeffrey Smith, Victoria Smith, and Gabriella Day. He is also survived by his siblings, Dora Dewitt (Elbert), Mike Martinez (Mary), Anita Krapes (Roy), Carmen Leone, Josie Sens (Larry), and Frank Martinez (Elvia). Our loving father was a broker and builder, having built over 100 homes in the South Bay. He was born in Long Beach in 1931 and enjoyed attending boxing matches at the Olympic stadium, white water rafting, deep sea fishing and always keeping busy. He also loved traveling, going to movies and attending concerts, especially John Denver. He loved debating politics and was a staunch democrat and never missed voting in an election. He was a devoted Catholic and never missed Sunday mass. Viewing will be from 1pm to 7pm at McNerney's Mortuary on Friday, February 3rd followed by a rosary. His life will be celebrated at a funeral mass on Saturday, February 4th at 10am at St Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Wilmington. He will be interred at All Souls Cemetery in Long Beach.
