Joseph P. Pierry, Sr. Obituary
Joseph P. Pierry, Sr., affectionately known as "Grandpa", "Poppy" and "Gate-Pop-Pop", died peacefully on January 19, 2011 with his loving family at his side following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Joe was born in Jersey City, NJ on October 7, 1933. He graduated from Pope Pius High School in Passaic, NJ and received his BS degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University. He was employed by Bendix Corporation in its guidance systems division as an aerospace engineer and worked on many projects including the Apollo Moon Mission and received a number of patents for his work. Upon retirement from the Honeywell aerospace division after over 40 years of service, Joe and his wife, Joan, moved from Park Ridge, NJ to San Pedro, CA. Joe enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was also an avid sports fan who enjoyed traveling and tasting the many different varieties of wine. Joe is survived by Joan, his loving wife of 51 years; and his children, Debbie Trujillo (Javier) of Santa Ynez, CA, Joseph Pierry (Judi) of San Pedro, CA and Gail Archambault (David) of Milton, VT. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas Pierry (Sandy) of Rancho Palos Verdes, his 8 grandchildren, Elysia, Jason, Jessica, Christina, Joey, Jimmy, Danielle and Javie and 2 great-grandchildren, Elysibeth and Anthoney and many nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his parents, Elizabeth and Thomas Pierry and his grandson, Matthew Alex Archambault. A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 23, 2011 from 3 - 8 p.m. at Green Hills Mortuary at 27501 South Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 24, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. at Mary Star of the Sea Church in San Pedro. Burial will be at Green Hills Cemetery.
