1924 - 2011

Born in Arizona, raised in Pasadena, CA and graduated from McKinley Jr. High School where he met his wife to be, Corinne Hinckley. They married on July 1, 1945 and stayed married for 66 years. He joined the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific. Joe was very patriotic and he loved his country. Joseph was a barber for 60 years. He was the owner of Joseph's Barber Shop in Old Downtown Torrance for 30 years. After selling the barber shop, Joe and his wife moved to the High Desert where he continued to work as a barber at the Holiday Inn in Victorville and then George Air Force Base until they closed. In 2001, they moved to Sun City to be closer to their children, Joseph A. Porras of San Diego, Jayne Lowe of Carlsbad, Cynthia Swanger of Hemet, Christopher Porras of Crystal Lake, IL and Claudia Hunter of Menifee; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Joe was a member of St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church as well as the American Legion Post #1657. Also surviving are sisters, Maxine Gaxiola of Azusa, CA and Lucinda Gomez of Corona, CA and many cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.
