Joseph Richard Straight Jr. Obituary
Joseph Richard
Straight, Jr.

Joseph Richard Straight, Jr., 69, beloved husband and partner of Leigh Morrison for over 30 years, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 in Tucson, Arizona.

Upon Joe's graduation with honors from Boston's Northeastern University in 1967 with a degree in Electrical Engineering, he entered the United States Air Force where he served his country for six years during the Vietnam War, retiring as a Captain. He proudly wore the Vietnam Veteran badge of honor throughout his life. Upon leaving the Air Force, Joe received his MBA from Boston University, and then began a long and successful career in the high technology industry. He spent five years with Data General in New Orleans, Louisiana and then was transferred to Redondo Beach, California in 1980 where he met Leigh. He cultivated his lifelong friendships within the local community including being a devout member of the Elks chapter in Redondo Beach and a Founding Member of the Live Oak Basketball Association of Manhattan Beach, California. He and his basketball friends played every Friday afternoon for over 35 years.

Joe and Leigh spent their lives building careers, traveling and enjoying a happy life together. After retiring from the technology industry, Joe was successful in the real estate business in North Redondo Beach. He bought homes, rented them and eventually built multiple larger homes on several lots.

Joe was admired for his wit, keen sense of humor, his love of classic literature, movies and architecture. And of course his world class garages in both Redondo and Tubac.

Joe was the eldest of five children of the late Joseph and Emilie Straight of Cumberland, Rhode Island. He is survived by his wife Leigh; his sister, Rosemarie and her husband, Larry Goodwin of Rancho Bernardo, CA; his brother, Timothy and his wife, Lynne Couture of Menlo Park, CA; his brother, John and his wife, Susan Dehen of Redondo Beach, CA and his nephew, John Caraluzzi and his wife, Rachael Ann Hofmann of Boulder, CO; his sister, Susan Straight passed away in 2002.
There will be a private burial near Tubac, Arizona. A celebration of Joe's life is planned in Redondo Beach, CA.
