Judy LaCoss Obituary
Judy Gustafson LaCoss
1946 - 2018

Judy Gustafson LaCoss, 71, of Westchester, passed away, peacefully at home early in the morning of January 4, 2018. She had fought a courageous two and a half year battle with sarcoma cancer. She is survived by her devoted husband of 36 years, Jeff; her beloved daughter, Jessica (Danny) Smith; her sister, Jane (Jim) Isomoto; niece, Julie Thue and grand nephew, Anders Thue, and the most recent of their rescue beagles, Lucy and Lola.
Judy was born in Los Angeles to Charles William "Bud" and Florence Grimlund Gustafson, on September 2, 1946. She grew up in Torrance and graduated from North High School in 1964. She was Honored Queen of Bethel 36, International Order of Job's Daughters. She graduated from Cal State Long Beach. After returning to school to become a paralegal she was hired by Kilroy Corp. in 1997 and remained there until her retirement in March of 2015. She was a strong woman and believed in social justice and helping others. Judy loved to read and served on the Board of Westchester Friends of the Library.
She was a talented seamstress, knitter, and an even more gifted quilter. She joined the Santa Monica Quilt Guild in 1995. She was on the Board for 12 years starting in 2001. She served as President twice, Vice President three times, Quilt Show Chair twice, and chair of Programs, Philanthropy, and Membership. For a number of years her goal was to make 12 charity quilts a year. Many organizations were the beneficiaries of these quilts including the Painted Turtle Camp, Ronald McDonald House, Read Me A Quilt for CASA children in foster care, Military Women in Need, and victims of Hurricane Katrina. Those of her family and friends who were honored to receive one of her thoughtfully designed handmade quilts will always treasure them.
At her request there will be no services. In the springtime her ashes will be scattered by her family in a vineyard in Northern California. If you wish to make a donation in her honor, please consider the Painted Turtle Children's Camp or Planned Parenthood. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com/obits
