June Sodaro Obituary
May 28,1926 - May 14, 2018June W. (Bodach) Sodaro of El Segundo, CA, died on May 14, 2018 at Providence Little Co. of Mary Medical Center at the age of 91. She was born on May 28, 1926 to parents Harry A. and Rosamond S. (Wheeler) Bodach in Port Chester, New York. She is survived by her sister, Rosamond H. Kerr , brother-in-law William E. Kerr (Bellmore, New York), nephew William T. Kerr (Crossville, Tennessee) and great nephew Timothy W. Kerr. Besides her parents, June was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Anthony Sodaro (November 20, 1987) and niece, Karen Kerr-Sheeron (May 17, 2017). June graduated from Central High School, Valley Stream, NY in 1943. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from New York State College for Teachers in Albany, NY in 1947 and her Master of Arts degree from the Teachers College at Columbia University in 1950 studying Mathematics. For one year she taught math in Cincinnatus, New York. She worked in NYC as an actuary for New York Life Insurance before becoming a Programmer at North American Aviation, Inc., Los Angeles, California, in January, 1959. This company latter became North American Rockwell, Rockwell International and then Boeing. She retired in 1981. She met her husband Joseph in Valley Stream, NY and they were married in El Segundo, CA on March 29, 1959. They enjoyed bowling together in different leagues and during the 1970's camping. They both were active in the fraternal society of the Foresters. June was an avid reader, dog lover, figurine elephant collector and enjoyed making "plastic canvas". In retirement June was very active at the El Segundo Senior Club (Joslyn Center) serving in many of the leadership positions and organizing many of the events at the center including Bingo and craft shows. She served multiple years as treasure of this club and as many would say, "balanced the statements to the penny". Many of the supermarkets would know June as the "coupon queen" because of her use of coupons and items on sale. June was chosen Senior Citizen of the year in 2003, which she was very proud of. June will be missed by her family and neighbors for the thoughtful items she would purchase in stores or catalogues for their birthday or special events. Funeral Services took place on May 18, 2018. A Thanksgiving of Life service was attended by the family and conducted by The Rev. Dr. Dina Ferguson of St. Michael the Archangel Episcopal Church on May 19, 2018 at Pacific Crest Cemetery, Redondo Beach, CA.
