Kathleen Carmel McKee Obituary
August 6, 1927 - October 29, 2010
Carmel McKee, a longtime resident of San Pedro, passed away October 29, 2010, peacefully in her sleep. A resident for over five years in a private care home in Palos Verdes, Carmel finally succumbed to Alzheimer's disease and its complications. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland to Elsie and Arthur Flynn, Carmel married her husband, Bert in 1951. Soon after, they relocated to Toronto, Canada. Their only son, Chris was born in 1962. Four years later, her husband transferred to Los Angeles where they took up residence in San Pedro. Carmel graduated from St. Claire's and Orange academies in Northern Ireland specializing in an accounting and secretarial career. A quiet and unassuming personality belied strong constancy which rewarded her many new and lifelong friends. Her word was her bond and earned her the nickname "Straight Arrow" from her associates in the business world where quick promotions and admiration were her rewards. In retirement, she volunteered as a Cub Scout den mother, was an associate of the San Pedro Chamber of Commerce and for many years was secretary for the Little Company of Mary Hospital volunteer group. With her husband, Bert, she was a traveler around the world by plane and ship. Of course, a trip to native Ireland was almost an annual event. Over the many years of her illness and treatments, her quiet acceptance of God's plan was evident in her composure to family and staff members alike. Carmel is survived by her husband, Bert; son, Christopher; and granddaughter, Lauren McKee. A funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday, November 10th at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church in San Pedro, followed by interment at Green Hills Memorial Park.
