Kenneth Schuchard Obituary
Schuchard, Kenneth Leo
Kenneth Leo Schuchard was born on March 19, 1925. He passed away peacefully on July 2, 2011, at 86 years old. He was born and raised in San Francisco. Even after he moved to Los Angeles, he maintained a fondness for the Bay Area with his family and friends there, including his brother Al, Al's wife Marge, sister Barbara and their families. Most summers he spent camping with his family at Camp 15 by Stoneman's Bridge in Yosemite. He was even a ranger one summer. He shared his love of Yosemite and the Sierras with his family, including hikes to Half Dome and the fire fall. Ken joined the Navy in 1943, and was shipped to American Samoa. While stationed on Guadalcanal, he ran into Bud Fensler who had joined the Marines. Bud was a life-long friend he met in elementary school and their paths crossed throughout their lives. Upon his return, Ken became a football star at San Francisco City College as a center and middle linebacker. He transferred to Stanford, and graduated in 1951. Ken worked for McDonnell Douglas for 30 years, consulted with various aerospace companies, and taught night classes in business and economics. He was active in his alumni groups and shared a love of Stanford sports with his son Bob. Their annual trip to the Big Game was something they looked forward to all year - they attended 25 Big Games in a row. Ken was kind and thoughtful, and always looked for the positive in things. He lived for his family, especially his grandchildren. He was their biggest cheerleader in life and in sports - including baseball, basketball, dance, football, volleyball, lacrosse, track, badminton, swimming and softball. Ken is survived by his son Bob Schuchard of Manhattan Beach, CA and Bob's wife, Alison Edwards, their children, Andy, Genie and Joey; daughter, Kathy Ariss, and children Chad and Danielle; son, John Schuchard of Torrance, John's wife Donna, and their children, Christy, Melissa and Michael, and great grandchildren Jake and Cade; his sister Barbara, and sister-in-law Marge. He was preceded in death by parents, Leo and Theresa Schuchard, and brother Al Schuchard. A memorial service will be held at the St. Cross Episcopal Church, 1818 Monterey Boulevard, Hermosa Beach on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Yosemite Conservancy, P.O.
