Lawrence "Larry" Doyle Vivian, 86, of San Pedro, passed away Sunday, August 19, in the presence of his loving family. Larry was born in Los Angeles to Dr. Robert and Myra "Belle" Vivian. He attended Los Angeles High School and then the University of Southern California, where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering. After college and service in the Navy during WWII, Larry traveled throughout Europe and then worked for fourteen years as a civilian engineer for the Army Corp of Engineers in Germany. While there, he married a German woman, his former wife of over twenty years, Sigrid Puder Vivian, and had his two children. After returning with his wife and children to Los Angeles, Larry continued his career working as a civilian engineer for the Long Beach Naval Shipyard. He later took an M.B.A. degree from California State University, Dominguez Hills, and after over thirty years of service retired from the Shipyard as Chief Industrial Engineer. He is survived by his ex-wife, Sigrid Vivian, his two children, Laureen and Michael Vivian, his brother, Richard Vivian, and three grandchildren. A private burial is to take place at Forest Lawn Glendale and a memorial service will be held at The Neighborhood Church of Palos Verdes, 415 Paseo Del Mar in Palos Verdes Estates, on Sunday, September 2 at 1:00 p.m., following the 11:00 a.m. service.
