Lena Marie (Leipold) O'Neil

Lena passed away peacefully on June 23, 2016. She spent her last days surrounded by her family who loved her dearly. Lena was born in the Leipold family house in Lomita on November 12, 1923 (Her house still stands today) to Johann George (the Lomita Blacksmith) and Agnes Lena Leipold. Lena is preceded in death by her husband Joseph O'Neil, her father George Leipold, her mother Agnes Leipold, her sister Bertha May Leipold, her sister Katharine Mina Lukasik and brother-in-law Ted Lukasik. Lena is survived by her daughter Kathleen Agnes O'Neil, her son Joseph John O'Neil and her daughter-in-law Dawn O'Neil and grandchildren Thomas O'Neil (Astrid), Laurie Jenkins (Frank), Karen Flowers (Callan) as well as her great grandchildren Megan and Jesse Jenkins, Rileigh and baby Ruckus (due in August) O'Neil. Lena is also survived by her nephew Timothy Lukasik and niece Jennifer Lukasik. Lena went to Lomita Elementary and to Narbonne High, she sold eggs door to door in Lomita to help her family and picked vegetables and fruit on the PV hill. During World War II Lena worked at Fort MacArthur and after worked for the Health Department in Torrance and Willowbrook. Lena was married to Joseph O'Neil for over fifty years. Lena was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was the matriarch of the family. Lena was always dancing and telling stories of the past. She now has no worries and can be happy and at peace with the ones she missed so much in heaven. Viewing will be held tonight, June 28 from 5pm - 8pm with a Vigil Service at 7pm at A.M. Gamby Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held Wed., June 29, 2016 at 10am at St. Margaret Mary with burial to follow at Green Hills.
