Lewis Elden Mueller

Lewis Elden Mueller, longtime resident of San Pedro, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2015. Born in St Paul, Minnesota, March 10, 1924 to John August and Ida Sophia (Kruse) Mueller, Lewis spent his early childhood in St Paul, Minnesota. At age 18, in December of 1942, he enlisted in the US Navy serving on the USS Gwin until the end of WWII. Lewis married the love of his life Eileen Donna Brekke, June 28, 1947 and settled in St Paul. He returned to service in the Navy in 1947 and eventually became an instructor in Fremont, Nebraska before being given orders for his next tour of sea duty. His sea duty would include tours aboard the USS Hornet from 1962-1966 and then the USS Bainbridge. He retired on the bridge of the USS Bainbridge in 1970 at the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. After almost 28 years of service to his country, he embarked on his next career at Magnavox where he utilized his electronic skills for the next 20 years. Lewis was preceded in death by his loving wife Eileen. Lewis and Eileen are survived by four children, Karen (David) Letcher, Patricia (Gary) Atkins, John (Evelyn) Mueller and Ida Lou (Ken) Huber. They were blessed with seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. They are also survived by numerous extended family members in Minnesota. Lewis was a strong, dedicated family man who always put his family first. He had a deep love for his children and often commented on how blessed he was to have his family. He taught his children well and we will continue his legacy of love. A public memorial service will be held Friday, May 22, 2015 at 1pm to honor and remember this remarkable man. The service will be held in the chapel at McNerney's Mortuary, 570 West Fifth St, San Pedro, California. A private family gathering will be held at a later date to fulfill his final request to have his ashes scattered at sea along with his bride of 65 years. They will be forever missed.
