Linwood Eugene Melton Obituary
Linwood Eugene Melton

Linwood Eugene Melton (Lin), the only child of Hazel Irene Bishop, passed away on the morning of November 12th, surrounded by his loving family. Lin was born on December 19, 1935 in Trussville, Alabama. In 1958, he married his high school sweetheart, Catherine Rose Thompson, and graduated from the University of Baltimore in Maryland. He attended the United States Marine Corps' Officer's Candidate School in Quantico, Virginia, and proudly served his country, holding the rank of Captain at the time of his honorable discharge. He spent the next 15 years working in the apparel business on the East coast until finally settling in California where he eventually started his own apparel company, the Lunada Bay Corporation. Lin loved life and he lived it to the fullest. The most rewarding moments in his life included spending time with his family, enjoying annual father-son fishing trips in Montana, golfing and fishing with his buddies, traveling with Cathy and friends, sharing decades of camaraderie with the Palos Verdes Breakfast Club, and serving as a past President of the Palos Verdes Homes Association. Lin had a huge heart, always reaching out to those in need and supporting deserving organizations he admired. He was a devoted son to his mother, a consummate host, and had a true love for our wonderful country. His larger than life, lovable persona will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He leaves this world a better place. Lin is survived by his wife, Catherine, of 57 years; his children, Chris (Kelley), Susan Stott, Beth Higgins (Erik), and Tom (Julie); his ten grandchildren, Brett, Zack, Connor, Jack, Ian, Lauren, Spencer, Abby, Emma and Bryn; numerous siblings in-law, half siblings, nieces, nephews and cousins. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 1pm at St. John Fisher Church in Rancho Palos Verdes. In lieu of gifts, donations may be made to Torrance Memorial Health Care Foundation, Providence TrinityCare Hospice Foundation or The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund.
