Obituary Condolences

Lorenzo Angelo Di Carlo

Lorenzo Angelo Di Carlo passed away peacefully at his home on October 11, 2011. Lawrence was born on September 17, 1924 in San Pedro, CA. He married Louise Anne Cuomo on May 25, 1947 and together they proudly raised five sons, Larry (Sally), Peter, Paul (Teri), John (Elissa) and Richard (Debbie). He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Victoria, Michaela, Katie, David, Vincent, Vanessa, Lawrence and Sam; his three sisters, Mary Thomas, Filomena Esposito and Lucy Di Rocco; 13 nephews and nieces. Lawrence spent his working career at Di Carlo Baking Company and its successor owners. The company was founded in 1906 by his great-grandparents. He was instrumental in establishing the playing fields for Eastview Little League on the former bakery property on the corner of Gaffey Street and Capital Drive. Throughout his lifetime he stressed to his children and grandchildren the importance of love of God, love of family, the lifelong value of education and the satisfaction of working hard in one's career of choice. His family will remember the welcoming environment that he and Louise created in their home for family and friends, especially summertime bar-b-ques and holiday gatherings. His children and grandchildren will remember him for playing card games, doing crossword puzzles, spending time at the beach on Balboa Island and the Portuguese Bend Club, fishing, golfing and attending sporting events. Lawrence was a former board member of San Pedro Peninsula Hospital, a member of Rotary International, the 20-30 Club and Mange Beve, a private dinner club of 10 couples which started in 1955. Confined to his home during the last seven months of his life, Lawrence relied on his faith in God and his love of family and friends to help him endure. He was a true example of courage and dignity. The family wishes to thank his caregivers and TrinityCare Hospice for their loving care, and thank the family and friends who visited and offered care, comfort and support. A funeral Mass will be offered at Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in San Pedro on Saturday, October 15 at 9:00 a.m., followed by a private burial. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to: Holy Trinity Parish, 1313 W. 14th St., San Pedro, CA 90732 for the healthcare of Lawrence's nephew, Anthony Di Rocco.
