Lorraine L. Cartozian

Lorraine L. Cartozian was born in Los Angeles on June 8, 1936 to Arousiag and Mike Erkel, and passed away on July 11, 2014 in Torrance from uterine cancer. She was 78 years old. Lorraine was a longtime resident of Palos Verdes and spent the majority of her career working at the Auto Club of Southern California as an Executive Secretary. She graduated from George Washington High School in June of 1954 and began working at the Auto Club's downtown Los Angeles headquarters. She married Dickran Cartozian on June 8, 1957 at the Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Church and was married for 23 years. She helped pay for her husband's architectural school at USC and worked throughout her life until 2004 when she retired.

Lorraine was the youngest of five siblings from a first generation Armenian family who had immigrated to the United States through New York's Ellis Island during the Armenian Genocide in the early 1900's. Lorraine was always admired for her stunning and radiant beauty and was often asked by the Auto Club to model for their print advertisements. She also proudly won a beauty contest at an Armenian dance when she was first married. Lorraine had many talents, but most meaningful to her was being a wonderful mother to her surviving daughter, Stephanie and a caring grandmother to her two grandchildren, Hattie and Mathilde.

Lorraine was a masterful hostess and enjoyed making, from scratch, a cornucopia of different dishes for her guests including Armenian delicacies that often would take days to prepare. Lorraine was also one of the most organized persons you could know and took pride in her meticulously well maintained home and garden. Lorraine had many friends dating back to her childhood years who she managed to maintain lasting friendships with until her recent and sudden passing. She had the biggest heart of anyone you could ever know and loved her family and friends dearly all her life. Lorraine is so missed and her passing leaves a void in the many lives that she so graciously touched including her two rescue kitties, Toby and Chloe, who now reside with her daughter. She opted not to have a Funeral Service, but there will be a luncheon in her honor, with a date yet to be determined. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
