Louise Sydney Carter Obituary
Louise Sydney Carter, a long time Torrance resident, died on February 16, 2011 in Cypress, CA while visiting her son. She was born on Easter Sunday in Long Beach in 1915. She was 95. She grew up and graduated from Alameda High School in 1933, and moved to Torrance in 1936 and started going to the Seventh-day Adventist church. Louise worked on bombers at Lockheed in Burbank in 1942 when she also married her soldier pen pal, William. They sold their house in 1963 after retiring and moved to a Torrance senior mobile home park as it was on a bus line and next to Sur La Brea city park that had tennis courts. Louise played tennis every week until she was 90 when her knees gave out. She won many trophies statewide, her proudest at Santa Barbara. Widowed in 2003 and after 67 years in Torrance, she and other seniors were forced to move when their park got a new owner who kept raising the rent which eventually was more than their Social Security income. She was forced to abandon her home to moved to Vancouver, Washington in 2004 to live with her sister. Louise is survived by her brother and sister, her son, three grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and five nieces and nephews. Louise is interred at Pacific Crest Cemetery in Redondo Beach. A family gathering graveside will be on Saturday March 5, 2011 at 1 pm. Her tennis and church friends are welcome to attend. Please sign the guest book at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
