Lucy Rose DiCarlo DiRocco

Lucy Rose DiCarlo DiRocco passed away peacefully in her San Pedro home surrounded by her loved ones on Monday, March 6, 2017 just three days before her 95th birthday. Born on March 9 1922, she was the youngest daughter of Pietro and Domenica DiCarlo, Italian immigrants who settled in San Pedro in 1906 and started the DiCarlo Baking Co. When Lucy was two years old her mother died and her father Pietro married Lucia DiClemente who joined the family and became beloved Mama Lucy to her and her three siblings. Lucy attended Ramona Convent School in Alhambra and Immaculate Heart College in Los Angeles. On Christmas Eve 1944, she met the love of her life, Anthony DiRocco, and after a brief courtship they were married in July 1945. Together they raised six children in their San Pedro home which became a gathering place for many family celebrations throughout the years. Blessed with a beautiful soprano voice, Lucy was a soloist and member of the choir at Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in San Pedro and throughout the years enjoyed singing at many weddings, funerals and other social events. Lucy is predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years, Anthony J. DiRocco, sons, Anthony DiRocco Jr. and Joseph Di Rocco, grandchildren, Brett Currier and Jovan Currier, brother, Lorenzo DiCarlo and sisters, Mary Thomas and Filomena Esposito. She leaves behind her loving daughters, Laurine DiRocco, Carla (Dennis) Emerson, Camille (Bill) Currier, Donna (Carlo Piazza) DiRocco, daughter in law, Theresa DiRocco, sister in law, Louise DiCarlo, 5 grandchildren , 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The family gives a heartfelt thank you to her loving caregivers, Annie Tamayo, Grace Borces, Elizabeth Wilson and Precy Hayag. Family and friends are invited to a Mass in celebration of her life on Tuesday, March 14 at 10:30 a.m. at Mary Star of the Sea in San Pedro. Her grandson, Father Cassian DiRocco will be the celebrant. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lucy's name to The Multiple Sclerosis Society, Survivors of Suicide Loss, San Diego, or The .
