Lydia Ann Saggau Goode

1935 - 2019

March 31, 1935 - December 28, 2018 Lydia Ann Saggau Goode passed away December 28, 2018 in San Pedro, California, following a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. She was the youngest of three children born to Bernie and Angie Saggau in Denison, Iowa. Lydia attended Denison High School and the University of Iowa, graduating in 1957 from the College of Nursing. While at Iowa she met her future husband, John Goode, in the clinic of the School of Dentistry. They were married on November 14, 1958 and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. San Pedro became their home in 1959, when John started his orthodontic practice and Lydia became part of the nursing staff at San Pedro Community Hospital. Lydia enjoyed her volunteer work for many years with Las Primeras and the Colleagues Auxiliary of the Assistance League of San Pedro/Palos Verdes. In 1965, she served as President of the San Pedro/Peninsula Hospital bookworm Guild. Lydia and John raised three children and enjoyed a house filled with all their kids' friends. Many of those friends saw "Mrs. Goode" as a second Mom. Lydia especially enjoyed skiing with her family and friends at Mammoth Mountain. She and John treasured their many travel adventures around the world, with Africa and Japan being two of her favorites. Cooking was a great joy for Lydia, she was happy in the kitchen preparing special dinners for her guests and she was pleased that her children carry on this love of hers. Lydia is survived by her husband, Dr. John Goode; brother, Bernie Saggau and sister, Norma Schmidt; children, Katy (Dan) Reich, Robert (Katherine) Goode, and Tom (Melanie) Goode; and three grandchildren, Fallon Goode, Jack Goode and Grace Reich.
