Margaret Ruth (Neuzil) Bozanich of Rancho Palos Verdes, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who taught physically and developmentally disabled children in the Harbor area for more than 50 years, passed away Monday, Sept. 5. She was 94. Born in Chicago on Oct. 12, 1921, her parents Emil and Sue Neuzil moved the family to San Pedro in 1930. Known to everyone as "Marge," she went to Mary Star of the Sea Elementary School and graduated from San Pedro High School in 1939. She attended Santa Barbara State College (which later became University of California, Santa Barbara), then Immaculate Heart College and later earned her bachelor's degree from California State University, Long Beach. During World War II she worked at Cal Shipyards and met Michael N. Bozanich, who served in the U.S. Army from 1940-45. They married in 1946. She began her career as an educator at Cabrillo Avenue School, and, after obtaining her special education credential, taught at Ernest P. Willenberg Special Education Center School (formerly Harlan Shoemaker) in San Pedro, where she was a caring teacher, advocate and friend to several generations of children and their families. She was very active in the charitable and cultural life of the South Bay including The Assistance League, Delta Kappa Gamma, Immaculate Heart Auxiliary, the Elks' Emblem Club, the Auxiliary of Little Sisters of the Poor, and Holy Trinity Church. She was a devoted wife to Michael, who passed away in 1982. They were married for 36 years. She is survived by her sons, Michael (Debra) Bozanich of Winchester, and Richard Bozanich of Rancho Palos Verdes; a daughter, Suzanne Shea of Rancho Mirage; her sisters Jean (John) Whitney and Marie Reardon; and her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at Holy Trinity Church. Interment will follow at Green Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 14 from 3-7 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. at McNerney's Mortuary.
