Margaret Gaynor Montgomery Seraphin Obituary
Margaret Gaynor Montgomery Seraphin

Margaret Gaynor Montgomery Seraphin was born on March 26, 1944 in Los Angeles, CA. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on November 22, 2016 in Long Beach, CA. Margaret's last year had been a difficult year with the loss of her loving husband, Jerry Seraphin, to pancreatic cancer in January as well as her own multiple stays in the hospital. Unfortunately her strong determination to live wasn't enough to overcome septic shock a second time. Margaret was the 4th of 6 children raised by Irish immigrant parents, Callaghan Patrick Gaynor and Catherine Mary (Donohue) Gaynor. Margaret lived most of her early life in Hawthorne, CA. Margaret's childhood was a difficult one with the loss of her older sister, Ann, at the age of 9 and the loss of her father the following year at 48 years old. Margaret and her other siblings (Patrick, Eamonn, Jerry and Sandy) had to grow up quicker than most children and take on adult responsibilities earlier than expected. A strong determination to not only survive, but to succeed in life was a common thread shared among the Gaynor children. Margaret graduated from Morningside High School in Inglewood, CA in 1962. She attended Westchester International Beauty College and became a hairdresser. She worked at Mr. Jess Salon in Torrance for many years. Margaret married Robert Montgomery in 1966 and had two sons, Sean and David. After they divorced, Margaret's main priority was to raise their sons to become well-rounded, happy, healthy and respectable citizens. She worked at various hair salons in the South Bay until she opened her own salon in 1987. A dream for many years, M. Montgomery Hair & Nail Designs was opened in the Walteria area of Torrance. M. Montgomery was a successful salon from the beginning due in part to Margaret's strong work ethic and determination. She was a very talented hairdresser and had a large clientele. In addition to hair dressing, Margaret was a talented artist and studied under locally famous tile painter, Gemma Taccogna. Margaret met Jerry in 1992. They were married in 1999 on a gondola at the Venetian in Las Vegas. Margaret and Jerry loved to travel, have fun with friends and family, and most of all they loved cruising around on their boat in Alamitos Bay. Margaret is survived by her sons Sean Montgomery (Colette) and David Montgomery (Molly), her beloved five grandchildren Jonathan, Ryan, Lauren, Callaghan & August, as well as many very close friends and other family members. Memorial services will be held on Saturday January 14 at 9:00am in the Church of Our Fathers at Forest Lawn – Cypress (4471 Lincoln Ave, Cypress, CA 90630) Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
