Mario Albano Obituary
Mario Albano

Surrounded by love in his family home, Mario Albano passed away on Friday, June 23, 2017. The ultimate jokester with a heart of gold, Mario could light up a room with his infectious smile and playful manner. "Fluent" in many languages other than his native Italian, he spoke a little Croatian, a little Spanish, a little Tagalog, a little German and a little French as he naturally found ways to make people feel valued and comfortable. Strangers never left his house without a nice glass of wine or cup of espresso. Born on March 28, 1930, he emigrated from Ischia, Italy in 1949. He married his beautiful wife, Rose, in 1958 and began building his life as a proud San Pedran. Fueled by a strong sense of ambition, Mario with Rose at his side, worked hard to realize the American dream. He felt his greatest achievement was seeing each of his three daughters graduate from UCLA. Mario worked 43 years on the waterfront with over 23 as a foreman for Local 94, where his larger than life presence became a fixture. As a lifetime member of the Elks, he and Rose enjoyed many dinner dances with their wonderful circle of friends. Mario's pride and joy were his grandchildren. He looked forward to time spent with them at his vacation home in Palm Springs. Mario is survived by his wife, Rose, daughters; Michele (Robert) AhKuoi, Rosanna (Walt) Janis, Antoinette (Stephen) Uthoff, grandchildren; Anthony, Alyssa and Michael Ahkuoi, Adrianna and Stephen Uthoff Jr., numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished brothers and sisters in law. Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 28th from 5:00-8:00 pm at McNerney's Mortuary with a Rosary service beginning at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday, June 29th at 10:30 am at Mary Star of the Sea Church, San Pedro. Entombment will be immediately following at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes. Please sign the guestbook at mcnerneysmortuary.com or dailybreeze.com.
