Marjorie Ann Christensen (nee Sullivan), a 60-year resident of Manhattan Beach, passed into the arms of Her Lord at Little Company of Mary hospital on November 15, 2013 at the age of 91. Born in Los Angeles, Marjorie was one of 5 children of William and Ellen Sullivan, who moved from Elmira, NY just before Marjorie's birth. She worked for many years in the restaurant and hospitality industry as a Banquet Manager up to her retirement, and was a proud member of the local Restaurant Worker's Union, during which time she competed and was crowned Miss Cheesecake of 1950. Marjorie married Julian Christensen in 1951, and soon moved to Manhattan Beach. Marjorie was a proud member and participant in many Manhattan Beach community organizations, such as the MB Property Owners, MB Sister Cities, and supported her husband Julian with involvement in the MB Lion's Club and MB Neighborhood Watch. Marjorie was an avid traveler, having visited 81 countries on 6 continents. Her and Julian's exploits included African safaris, a trip up Machu Picchu to see Halley's Comet, and motorhoming thru 46 of the 48 contiguous states. Marjorie enjoyed oriental art, chatting on the phone with friends and family, and ensuring that everyone she knew received a rousing "Happy Birthday" song on their special day. Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband Julian, her brother Bill, and her sisters Elinor, Rosemary, and Florine. She is survived by her son Tim Christensen of Bristow, VA, grandchildren Lauren, Andrew, and Megan Christensen also of Bristow, by stepdaughter Judy Cook of Idaho, and by an extended family of nieces and nephews whom she enjoyed keeping contact with. Marjorie was loved by her family both close and extended, who will miss her greatly. A memorial mass and celebration of Marjorie's life will be held at 10:00AM on November 23, 2013 at American Martyrs Catholic Church at 624 15th Street.
