Martha L'Jean Abert

Martha L'Jean Abert, a 58 year resident of the South Bay passed away on Wednesday October 28, 2015 in Manhattan Beach, California. Born in Connersville, Indiana, Martha was 81 when she died. After graduation from Ball State University, she came to California in 1956 and was employed as a teacher by the Oxnard School District. Martha met her husband, Karl, who survives her, in 1956, and they were married in Santa Barbara in 1957. In late 1957 they relocated to Redondo Beach. Martha's first employer in the South Bay was the Redondo Beach School District. After a year she transferred to the Hermosa Beach School District where she taught second through fourth grades for 25 years. She pursued her graduate level education at Loyola Marymount University earning a Master's in Education degree in 1969. She loved her home and her neighborhood in Manhattan Beach along with a mountain vacation home in Idyllwild, California. She also especially enjoyed her pet dogs through the years. Among her other interests, she was an active member of the P.E.O. in Hermosa Beach having served as a past president of the Hermosa Beach chapter. Services will be private.
