Mary Raisola Guerrero Obituary
Mary Raisola Guerrero

Mary Raisola Guerrero was born on April 21, 1927 in Los Nietos, California and passed away in Torrance on November 23, 2016 at the age of 89. Daughter to Luis and Elena (Agudo) Raisola, she was the youngest of seven children. Her family moved to Los Angeles in 1938. She graduated from Jefferson High School. In 1946 she married Jose Filemón Guerrero whom she met at a dance. They purchased a home in Los Angeles, which later was incorporated into the City of Commerce. She was widowed shortly before their 40th anniversary. Mary was a homemaker and full-time volunteer in her community.

Mary valued family, education and service to others. The latter is exemplified by her active leadership in the City of Commerce civic organizations for nearly 50 years, including the American Cancer Society, Women's Club of Commerce, Sister City Association, Model City Democratic Club, Auld Lang Syne Club, Lions Club, Senior Citizen Club, Social Club, and Garden Club. She served on the city's Planning Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission, and Senior Citizens Advisory Commission. In 1991 Mary was named the 56th Assembly District's Woman of the Year by Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard. She was a Women of Courage honoree for the 50th Assembly District in 2005 and was recognized for her volunteer service during Los Angeles County's 42nd Annual Older Americans Recognition Day in 2007.

Mary had a feisty, no-quit attitude. She wasn't afraid to speak her mind or speak up for others. Mary will be remembered as a dedicated mother and grandmother, a woman of strength and determination, a well-liked and respected contributor and leader in her community. Her fun-loving spirit, quick wit, and gregarious nature will be greatly missed.

Mary is survived by her daughter Helen (Roger) Metzler, granddaughters Erica (Ryan) Messick and Kelly Metzler, and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staffs of Arlington Post Home, Milestone Hospice, and Family Connect Care for their loving care.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 1 from 6-9 pm at the Guerra & Gutierrez Mortuary, 5800 E. Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles. A Funeral Mass will be Friday, December 2 at 9:30 am at St. Marcellinus Church, City of Commerce. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
