Obituary Condolences

Mary Veronica Ziemke

Mary Veronica Ziemke, beloved daughter of Emil Fredrick and Gertrude Veronica Ziemke, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 30, 2013. She was 62.

Mary was born at the old Torrance Memorial Hospital and lived her whole life in the South Bay area. She graduated from Torrance High School in 1969 and later earned an A.A. degree from El Camino College.

Mary was a production supervisor for Pentel of America for over 20 years. She was a member of the American Legion Post 833 in Long Beach. For the past two years, she served as second vice president at the American Legion in charge of event planning.

Influenced by her mother, her sister Elizabeth and her friend, Aaron Song, she became an accomplished chef. The meals she planned and prepared for American Legion events were legendary and drew a loyal crowd of appreciative diners.

She was inquisitive by nature and continued to challenge herself to learn more about the world around her. She preserved the family legacy by painstakingly documenting the family history.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Joan Phyllis Kritzer of Elverta, CA and by her brother, Donald Francis Ziemke of Long Beach, CA. Mary is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Hunter of Hawthorne, CA; her two brothers, Richard Michael of Vinita, OK and John Vincent Ziemke of Redmond, WA as well as a host of adoring nieces and nephews.

Mary touched the lives of many people. She was unassuming, charitable, compassionate, generous, loyal and supportive of family members, friends and acquaintances. She was a great listener who had the natural ability to comfort those in need. In her own way, she made the world a better place.

A celebration of Mary's life will be held at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in El Segundo, CA on Saturday, November 2nd at 2:00 pm.

To respect Mary's wishes, all donations should be made to the charitable organization of your choice.

Mary, for all of us who were in your orbit, including your loyal companion, Tigger, we will miss you dear girl!
