Michael Brian (Mike) Shea Obituary
Michael Brian (Mike) Shea

Michael Brian (Mike) Shea quietly passed from us on July 7, 2016 with family by his side following a short but courageous battle with mesothelioma. Mike was born in Fall River, MA on August 9, 1953 to Armand and Rosemary Shea, the eldest of four siblings. Mike was a Navy man's son and lived in many places in his youth before settling in the South Bay as a teenager. Mike graduated from Carson High School, where he was a star on the swim team, and received his Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration from CSUDH.
Mike dedicated his career to public service. He worked at the Long Beach Naval Shipyards for 14 years, and joined the Los Angeles Police Department in 1987. He spent 29 years proudly serving the residents of South Los Angeles at the 77th Street Division, most recently as a Senior Lead Officer. Mike loved his work and found great joy in working with the community to make it a better place to live and work. He was proud to call the men and women of the LAPD his family.
Mike was an avid boater and his happiest moments were spent at Lake Havasu in Arizona with family and friends. Mike considered family and friends to be his greatest gifts, and he was a gift to us. Loyal, loving, funny and kind, he was generous of spirit and his passing leaves a hole in the hearts of all who knew him.
Mike was predeceased by his parents and a sister Kathy (Ken) Jordan. He is survived by his loving wife Cheryl, his son Jeffrey (Nicole), daughter Stephanie, granddaughter Leighton, sisters Colleen Fisher and Kelly Shea, both of Port Orchard, WA, and many nieces and nephews that he dearly loved.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at St. Lawrence Martyr Catholic Church in Redondo Beach, CA. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
