Michael George Matheson Obituary

Michael George Matheson, 61, bid farewell to the pain and suffering of lung cancer on April 7, 2012, the night before Easter. Michael believed in God and now rests in the arms of the Lord. As a 41-year smoker, Michael's message to all smokers is stop/quit or if you don't smoke, don't start. Michael fought a brave and courageous battle against cancer. He blamed no one and accepted full responsibility for his fate. A 57-year resident of Redondo Beach, Michael was a professional tow truck driver in the South Bay area for 25 years. He was also employed by Yellow Cab of Los Angeles and managed King Cab Company in Fairbanks, Alaska. As a teen Michael worked at West Torrance Convalescent Hospital. After high school, he was employed at Mosaic Tile and Chevron Oil. He graduated from Lincoln Elementary School in 1963, Adams Junior High in 1965 and Aviation High School in 1969. He also attended El Camino College. His passions in life were skiing the slopes of Mammoth, swimming the oceans of Redondo, Manhattan and Hermosa beaches, fishing and working on his cars. Michael was an avid skier. He loved June Lake and his golden retrievers, Rhett and Rufus. He treasured his family, friends and neighbors and the compassion he was shown by Vitas Hospice. Michael is survived by his sisters, Dorothy M. Matheson of Redondo Beach and Margaret M. Matheson Dockter of Yucaipa, CA. Michael was born on September 16, 1950 in Seattle, WA to Margaret and Donald Matheson, both now deceased. Michael will be cremated on April 25, 2012 at Pacific Crest Cremetory in Redondo Beach and his ashes will be buried with his father at Calvary Cemetary in Seattle, WA on May 9, 2012. His sisters are hosting a celebration of his life at the Redondo Beach home on April 28, 2012 at 2 pm. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
