Mildred Elaine Sauer Smith Obituary
Mildred Elaine Sauer Smith

Mildred was born in Kentucky on 9-29-1919 to Ulrich & Lisetta Sauer. She entered Heaven on 4-9-2015, from Torrance, at the age of 95 years. She enjoyed being a wife, mother and homemaker. She was very devoted to her daughter, Marilyn Smith. She was married for over 50 years to her late husband, Robert L. Smith. Although suffering from Parkinson's disease for many years, she lived the life dealt to her. She never complained about anything. She always seemed content.

Mildred was sweet, soft spoken and talented in many ways. She could do anything artistic! She used oil on canvas as her favorite medium. She was a marvelous artist and entered many shows taking away first place honors. She would make the most beautiful corsages using her husband's prize winning orchids. She always seemed in the middle of a project she was making with Marilyn, but never too busy to love those around her and spend time with them.

We miss her wit, old sayings, humor, gentleness and generosity of time to help others with artistic endeavors, and we will always remember her wise words. Mildred was a mother-figure to all the children in her life, and there were many.

Mildred is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Smith, of the home in Redondo Beach, CA; niece, Christine Freeman of Indiana; nephew, Rick Rogers and his wife, Sharon Evans of Sunland, CA; and special friends for over 68 years, Mellody Fowler Anderson and Laurie Ketner; all her caregivers, including Tanya Fisher.

Crypt-Side Services will be held at Green Hills Memorial Cemetery on Western in Palos Verdes on Friday, May 8, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. with lunch to follow. Please sign the guest book at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
