Millie Marie Marrick Mattera

Millie Marie Marrick Mattera went to be with her Lord February 13, 2015 after a brief hospital stay. Millie also know as Mom, Grandma, Gama, Grandma French Toast, and Grandma Toolie was the rock of a large family. She adored her husband Benny Mattera and was the strong, giving and loving mother to her four sons Paul(Stephanie), Steve(special friend Jodi), Matt(Jenny) and Nick(June) Marrick. Her boys were such a huge part of her life. Millie Medak was born in Komin, Croatia on January 31, 1937 and emigrated with her family including her father Steve Medak, mother Mary Medak and brother Mike(DeeDee) Medak to New York City when she was 3. Her family lived in Brooklyn and then moved to Compton, California when she was 6. The family eventually settled in San Pedro where her father, Steve was a cook on a commercial fishing boat and her mother Mary went to work at the local canneries. She graduated from San Pedro High School in 1954. She was a princess in the Fisherman's Fiesta in 1954. On October 25, 1958 she married Paul Marrick with whom she had her boys. Paul passed away January 20, 1996. Millie's family was the joy of her life. In addition to her boys she had 9 grandchildren: Steven (Leigh), Rebecca, Shelby, Maggie, Paul, Collin, Kyrah, Morgan and Spencer Marrick. Although her children and grandchildren were in Colorado and Georgia, she enjoyed visits to and from them on a regular basis. Grandma's house was always full of love. Millie married Benny on June 11, 2005 in Las Vegas, Nevada and welcomed her new step-children and step grandchildren into her family. She enjoyed almost ten years of marriage to Benny who cared for her so well and so deeply. In September of 2005 Millie and Benny visited Croatia including a visit to the church she was baptized in in Komin. Millie attended Mary Star of the Sea Catholic church. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, the Elks, the Classy Ladies, the Cranberry Tarts and a past member of the Velike Gospa. In addition Millie is survived by her step-children Tony, Debbie(Marco),Donna(Michael) and step-grandchildren Christine, John, Shontae, Ryan, Mark, Eric, Nicholas, and CJ.
