Nina Elizabeth "Betty" Franco Obituary
August 12, 1941 - July 24, 2010
Passed away at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center in Torrance, CA surrounded by her husband, children, grandchildren and family members after a protracted fight with pneumonia and diabetes. The first of three children of Joe and Eduviges Sabas, she was born in New York City and moved to California at a very young age. Nina's family lived in Monterey, Long Beach, and Wilmington where she met and married her husband Dario. After her children were born and they began attending school, she decided to begin her career in the travel and tourism industry. Throughout her life she traveled five of the seven continents and took an early retirement in 1994. Nina and her husband continued to enjoy exploring the world, visiting Europe, Asia, going on Safari in Africa, climbing Ayers Rock in Australia, sunning in Tahiti, Mexico and most of the Hawaiian Islands, as well as traveling extensively in South America and the Caribbean. Nina was an excellent cook which made her a wonderful hostess. She warmed our hearts while filling our bellies. Nina taught her husband Dario to cook her favorite foods, which pleased her to no end. Nina had an energy about her that lifted the hearts of loved ones and strangers. Her vivacious personality captured everyone. Nina is survived by her husband, Dario; their children, Dario ("Sam") Franco and his wife Catrice of Las Vegas, NV & Josephanie ("Missie") Ackman and her husband Brian of Manhattan Beach, CA. Nina's grandchildren include Courtney & Louie Franco and Emma Ackman. She is also survived by her sisters, Josephine Blakemore, Carmen Inez; brother in law, Bill Inez; and her extended family of nephews and nieces. A sunset memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the Point Vicente Interpretation Center located at 31501 Palos Verdes Drive West, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275, on August 11, 2010. A private family service will be held for the scattering of her ashes at sea on August 14, 2010. Nina, your strength, courage, and bravery have inspired us all. Our prayers will be with you until we meet again. Please sign the guest book at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
