Norma Jean Kayser

December 18, 1927 - November 3, 2012

Norma Jean Kayser passed away at her home in Manhattan Beach on November 3. Norma was known and loved for her vitality, keen intelligence, and passion for all things beautiful as she pursued her interests in travel, music and the arts. Her greatest joy was sharing these pleasures with her friends. She was committed to a lifetime pursuit of further knowledge in her many areas of interest, and particularly enjoyed her study of music at El Camino College. She graduated from Westport High School in her native Kansas City, Missouri, in 1944. She studied geology at what is now the University of Missouri - Kansas City. While still a teenager she worked as a meteorologist in Kansas City, an unusual position for a woman but which came available due to the shortage of men in the workforce during World War II. Later she served as recreational director for the USO in Garmisch, Germany, where her skills as an exceptional hostess were fostered. After moving to California she made a career as a social worker in the Los Angeles County Dept. of Public Social Services, and became an investigator with the Superior Court for child custody and later for probate. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Kayser, a sister, Dorothy M. Moncrieff and her parents, Mildred Lowe Dehmer and Robert Dehmer. She is survived by her nephew, Charles Moncrieff of Las Vegas, and loyal friends from her life journey, especially in the South Bay area which she loved. Memorial service and burial will be held privately. Please sign the guestbook
