Patricia Ann (Sullivan) Miller Obituary
Patricia Ann Miller (Sullivan)

Pat Miller passed away peacefully at home on January 6, 2017 after a brief illness. Pat was born to Charles and Ethel Sullivan on June 10, 1938 at First Methodist Hospital in Los Angeles. Shortly after her birth, her family moved to San Pedro where she resided her entire life. Pat attended Barton Hill Elementary School and Holy Trinity where she was always proud to be a member of the first graduating class. She went on to attend Mary Star High School and it was during this time she met her husband, Howard. They were married March 4, 1961 at the old Holy Trinity Church and in 1964 bought their family home on 17th Street. Pat and Howard were blessed with great neighbors who were like family and with whom they and their kids have shared 53 years of wonderful memories. Pat worked at the San Pedro courthouse until returning to school in her 30s to complete her AA degree, eventually obtaining a degree in nursing. She worked at St. Francis Hospital, San Pedro Hospital and as a home health nurse before finally retiring. After her retirement, Pat wanted to see the world and began to tackle it one country at a time. Her travels took her to Italy, Greece, Croatia, Ireland, Mexico, Israel and Turkey as well as several countries she visited on cruises. She also enjoyed Hawaii and traveling to Steamboat Springs, Colorado to visit her daughter, Carla, and her family. Pat was adventurous and over the years was lucky enough to have gone hot air ballooning, white water rafting, skiing and even on a sleigh ride in the Colorado snow last Christmas. When she wasn't traveling Pat enjoyed gardening, sewing and crafting as well as attending bible study and services at Rolling Hills Covenant Church where she was a member. She was also a proud grandmother and "Grammy", as the grandkids called her, was always one of the loudest fans supporting them at their various sporting events and theater productions. When she wasn't supporting the grandkids at one of their functions, she was happy to support Nordstrom or pretty much any other retail store. She especially enjoyed kicking off the Christmas season with many overnight shopping trips to South Coast Plaza with her good friends Mary Ann Carresi and Gerri Trainotti. Pat's final days were spent peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends laughing, telling stories and allowing everyone to make jokes at her expense. She leaves behind her husband, Howard, and her three children, daughter Colleen Verbeck and her husband, Dave, of Whittier, California; daughter Carla Arce and her husband, Armando, of Steamboat Springs, Colorado; and son Kenny Miller and his wife, Robyn, of San Pedro, California. Also missing Grammy are the 6 grandkids she adored, Jill and Katelyn Verbeck, Isabella Arce and Maddie, Kenny and Jack Miller. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, 11:30 a.m. at Green Hills Chapel followed by interment at Green Hills Memorial Park.
