Philip Muelrath Obituary

Muelrath, Philip Leo
1916 - 2007
Age 91, a 46-year resident of the South Bay, passed away peacefully at home Thursday, December 27, 2007. Born in Dickinson, North Dakota to Margaret and Christof Muelrath on January 24, 1916, he was the youngest of their twelve children. The family moved to Petaluma where they lived during his teenage and young adult years. During World War II from 1942-1945, Philip served in the US Navy in the Pacific Arena. From 1946 until he retired in 1976, Philip was an employee of United Airlines service in various management positions. His love of travel took him all over the world. An enthusiastic member of the Knights of Columbus, he served in a variety of capacities including that of Grand Knight. He was a longtime parishioner of American Martyrs Church, the Manhattan Beach/Hermosa Beach Lions Club, and the Manhattan Beach Sister Cities Association. Philip was a volunteer at the South Coast Botanic Gardens and served on the Manhattan Beach Parking Place Commission. He was a talented artist in the stained glass field, a great gardener, and displayed a positive attitude and a love of life. Philip is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara; his brother, John; many nieces and nephews and good friends. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, January 14, 2008 at 10AM at American Martyrs Church, Manhattan Beach with a reception immediately following. Uncle Phil,
You will be greatly missed. We will always remember our trips to your home and you showing us around Southern California. You always made us feel so welcomed. We always looked forward to your visits to Sonoma County so we could spend time with you and Aunt Barbara.
