Phillip J. Costillo Obituary
Phil Costillo, a 44-year resident of San Pedro, died on June 26, 2011 at the ageof66. Phil devoted his time to many organizations, most of which exemplified his love for sailing and the desire to share that with others. He was a 30-year member of the Cabrillo Beach Yacht Club and a past member of the Channel Cruising Clubin Catalina Island. He was also a life time member of the Navy League, mentoring Navy Cadets in the skill of seafaring. Phil was an active 45-year member of I.L.W.U., Local 13 and served the duties of safety steward in the1970s and 80s, as well as union steward for 13 years. Phil reliably worked for The National Lines Bureau from 1974 to 2010. He was also a past member of the Corvette Club of Los Angeles, the Masonic Lodge in Wilmington, the Elks' Club in San Pedro, as well as attending the Neighborhood Church in Palos Verdes. Philis survived by his children: Amy De La Riva, David Costillo, John Costillo, and Amanda Costillo; his grandchildren, Michael, Olivia and Hannah De La Riva, Joshua Costillo and Eleanore Costillo; and long time companion, Jean Young. Viewing will be at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5, at Green Hills in Rancho Palos Verdes, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. and interment at 2:00 p.m. Please sign the guest book for Phillip at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
